Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has announced plans to extend its presence beyond motorsports into the consumer vehicle market, with the upcoming release of the Civic Type R HRC for the U.S. This model will make its debut at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas, following its initial unveiling at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The move marks Honda’s formal entry into street-legal performance vehicles under its racing division, building on earlier concept reveals for the Prelude and Passport HRC. A test drive of an Acura Integra Type S HRC prototype was also conducted last year, further demonstrating the brand’s direction.
The Civic Type R HRC will incorporate several track-focused enhancements, including upgraded engine cooling systems, a larger intercooler, a redesigned exhaust setup, and possible increases in power output. Design modifications may also feature revised front and rear bumpers alongside aerodynamic refinements, drawing inspiration from the performance-oriented changes seen on the Integra Type S prototype.
This expansion comes as part of HRC’s broader strategy, which includes HRC effectively absorbing Honda Performance Development (HPD), a company specializing in aftermarket parts for Honda vehicles. The first batch of HRC-branded aftermarket components, such as lightweight forged wheels, short-throw shift kits, and exhaust systems for the Type R, Integra Type S, and Passport TrailSport, will be available starting in March 2027. Additional products, including prototype coil-overs and a Brembo brake kit, were previewed at SEMA, hinting at future offerings. Beyond hardware, HRC intends to introduce apparel, collectibles, scale models, and accessories to support its brand identity.
At the SEMA Show, Honda showcased 12 competition vehicles and motorcycles alongside the Civic Type R HRC concept, reinforcing its commitment to performance. Among the displayed models was the newly revealed Passport Baja Spec, which produces 1,300 horsepower. This exhibition highlights HRC’s intention to merge its motorsport heritage with everyday driving, applying its racing expertise to consumer-focused products.
