Toyota has revealed five off-road concepts, dubbed Snowhunter, ahead of the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. These vehicles replace traditional wheels with snow tracks for extreme winter terrain, showcasing Toyota’s innovative approach to off-road exploration.

Toyota’s Off-Road Vision

The Snowhunter family includes the Tundra and Tacoma pick-ups, along with the 4Runner, LandCruiser, and Sequoia SUVs. These concepts demonstrate how Toyota’s body-on-frame models can be adapted for deep-snow exploration, expanding their capabilities beyond traditional off-road environments. While only the LandCruiser is currently available in Australia, the concepts highlight Toyota’s growing interest in specialist off-road equipment, with potential implications for future production models.

Design and Modifications

Developed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Snowhunter concepts feature distinctive camouflage paintwork, gloss-black highlights, and bespoke badging. Additional Rigid Industries lighting and white powder-coated tracked running gear further enhance their rugged aesthetic. Suspension modifications incorporate Toyota Genuine Parts and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) lift components, ensuring sufficient clearance for the larger track assemblies, which are key for handling deep snow.

From Concept to Reality?

Toyota has not confirmed plans to commercialize the Snowhunter package, but the concepts follow a familiar path. The Japanese manufacturer has previously used SEMA to preview production-bound off-road equipment, such as the Trailhunter range, which was foreshadowed by a heavily modified Tundra overlanding concept at the 2022 SEMA Show. This history suggests that elements of the Snowhunter concepts could eventually make their way into production models.

The Tundra Snowhunter stands out as the most elaborate concept, designed as a mobile basecamp for winter expeditions. Its centerpiece is the CALTY-designed TrailLift Pro Rack System, which includes configurable storage compartments and an articulating upper rack that lowers for easy loading and unloading of bulky equipment. Additional modifications include TRD billet rear control arms, Predator Step side steps, and supplementary lighting, further enhancing its expedition-ready capabilities.

The Tacoma Snowhunter highlights agility, equipped with a roof rack, full-length bed rack featuring modular MOLLE mounting panels, an awning, recovery tools, extra storage, and dedicated bed lighting. A roof-mounted communications antenna enhances connectivity in remote areas. The 4Runner Snowhunter adopts a similar expedition-oriented design, adding Toyota Genuine rock rails, underbody armor, a Prinsu roof rack with accessory panels, and a Thule Pulse 2 cargo box, ensuring strong protection and ample storage.

Toyota has not provided details on engine or transmission changes, and cautions that these vehicles are prototypes with modifications that may affect safety, performance, warranty coverage, and road legality. The Snowhunter concepts will make their public debut at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas from November 3 to 6, 2026, offering a glimpse into Toyota’s vision for extreme off-road exploration.
