Range Rover has launched an official bespoke atelier in Sydney, joining premium brands like Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Aston Martin in offering ultra-personalized vehicle customization for its SV and Autobiography models. The Range Rover Bespoke Commissioning Sydney suite, located in the suburb of Mascot, allows owners to build a vehicle tailored to their exact preferences—without altering its mechanical performance.
The service provides an extensive range of colors, trims, and accessories. Customers can select from over 300 to 400 off-the-shelf paint colors or request custom matches inspired by personal items like childhood toys or holiday destinations. Interior options include a wide array of leather upholstery, embroidery choices on shoulder squabs and cushions, and hand-stitched engravings on the center console, with limitations primarily around material testing and feasibility.
At the launch, Tom Anderson, Head of Range Rover Australia, highlighted how the program draws from the brand’s heritage. The Pioneer 1972, a restored 1972 Range Rover sourced from a private owner, serves as a case study. Its design blends Australian inspiration, like a reinterpretation of Davos white paint, originally inspired by the Swiss Alps, now based on Mount Kosciuszko, with bespoke touches such as tread plates and body-colored wheel inserts.
Anderson noted regional variations in client preferences. While Sydney buyers often favor grey, black, and white, Gold Coast customers tend toward bolder colors, and Melbourne aligns more closely with Sydney’s taste. However, bespoke clients frequently move beyond standard specifications, opting for radical interiors even if they stick to conventional exteriors.
Customization extends to technical challenges, particularly in paint. Two-tone paints, especially those with glass-like flecks or gradient effects, are among the most complex. Anderson noted that such bespoke paint options typically cost around $40,000, with an additional $40,000 to ensure the color formula remains exclusive to the buyer. Some hues, such as those used for the King of England, are off-limits to regular customers.
Anderson confirmed the demand justifies the permanent Sydney suite. Many buyers already own multiple luxury vehicles but seek Range Rovers for their uniqueness. For these clients, personalization outweighs resale concerns, he said.
The bespoke process begins with a consultation at a retail location, where customers outline their vision and the retailer evaluates feasibility. The service applies to Range Rover Sport, Autobiography RSV, and Autobiography trims. Retailers are advised to use the bespoke content value as a deposit to mitigate risks if a project is abandoned.
Anderson declined to speculate on future localized editions but pointed to the Pioneer 1972 as an example of deep customization. Its NSW-inspired details, from paint to stitching, showcase the possibilities when heritage meets personalization.
