
Volteras has unveiled a virtual connected fleet testing platform that lets fleet managers evaluate how connected electric vehicles (EVs) will behave before committing to real‑world deployments.
How the sandbox replicates real‑world driving
The platform replaces traditional demo‑fleet trials, which often require weeks of vehicle procurement and costly on‑road testing. Using synthetic data, Volteras creates a sandbox that mimics the telemetry of actual EVs, including speed, battery charge, and location signals.
Customers can select virtual EVs representing various makes and models. Once chosen, those vehicles are placed into a simulated environment modeled on the streets of Monaco. In this digital city, they drive continuously, stopping at traffic lights, moving through traffic, and pausing at charging stations. The simulation aims to reflect typical EV movement patterns, providing a familiar backdrop for fleet operators.
Because the sandbox runs 24/7, users can observe how data evolves over longer periods, rather than being limited to short test cycles. This continuous operation lets managers assess trends such as mileage accumulation and charging frequency across weeks or months.

Volteras says the platform lets customers test custom alerts, geofencing rules, and mileage thresholds through its API. Without any physical vehicles, users can validate data pipelines and ensure their systems will handle live fleet telemetry.
“Testing connected EV fleet data used to mean sourcing demo vehicles, waiting weeks for meaningful telemetry to build up, and hoping the data told you what you needed to know,” said Barnaby Hewlett, head of product design at Volteras. “With the Volteras sandbox, fleet customers can explore synthetic EV data immediately with no physical vehicles required.”
The company notes that the sandbox also supports long‑term data preview, enabling fleet operators to see how alerts would fire over time and to fine‑tune parameters before any real vehicle joins their roster.
In practice, a fleet manager might set a geofence around a depot and configure an alert to trigger when a vehicle exceeds a certain mileage without returning for charge. The sandbox would generate synthetic events that mimic those conditions, allowing the manager to confirm that the alert behaves as expected.

The platform’s design reflects a broader shift in the automotive industry toward digital twins and virtual testing environments. By eliminating the need for physical demo fleets, companies can reduce both time and expense associated with early‑stage adoption of connected EV technology.
