BCA has opened a new electric vehicle (EV) battery repair centre at its Doncaster site, expanding its capabilities for the growing number of hybrid and electric cars entering the used market. The facility, managed by BCA Fleet Solutions, provides repairs for batteries on vehicles where the manufacturer warranty has expired or been invalidated. The centre handles a wide range of services, including insulation testing, module repair and replacement, casing repairs, drive motor replacements, cellular balancing, DC charger and inverter repairs, and the supply of green parts for high voltage components.
Repairs to OEM standards
BCA carries out repairs to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards, ensuring EVs and hybrids can be assessed, repaired, and offered for sale promptly. The company also performs on-site battery repair at the Renault Import Centre in Portbury to support Renault UK with traction battery maintenance facilities. Paul Bromley, managing director of BCA Fleet Solutions, said the new centre provides a one-stop solution for electric vehicle repairs.
“Rather than simply replacing expensive batteries, we investigate the cause and repair or replace components, delivering a cost-effective and timely solution that means EVs and hybrid vehicles can be repaired and offered for sale without undue delay,” Bromley said. “This helps to support a circular economy, driving ESG goals and ensuring these vehicles reach the market in the best possible condition to attract buyers.”
Bromley concluded that BCA continues to lead the remarketing sector in adapting to the changing needs of the automotive industry as it moves towards widespread electrification and the rising volume of software-defined vehicles.
While the source focuses on the mechanics of the new facility, the expansion reflects a broader shift in the automotive industry. As EVs move further from their warranty periods, the secondary market faces a growing need for specialized maintenance. Repairing existing components rather than discarding entire battery packs aligns with economic efficiency and environmental goals, reducing waste and keeping more vehicles in circulation longer. This type of specialized infrastructure is becoming essential for remarketing companies that handle high volumes of electric stock.

Assessing EV value
BCA launched its EV battery report service in 2024 in partnership with Aviloo to meet the sector’s needs. Batteries on sale cars are graded from A to E, resulting in “significantly higher sale conversion rates, improved average values and a shorter time to sale” for both passenger cars and electric light commercial vehicles, according to the company. BCA’s specialist EV/Hybrid Assured Report includes testing the charging capability of the vehicles, the state of the charge port, and the availability of charge cables.
EVs have been the strongest performing sector at auction for many months regarding demand and price performance. The market averages more than 1,000 EV sales every week, with online sales staged daily, including weekends. The top sellers by volume include the Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace, Mini Electric, Kia e-Niro, and Nissan Leaf.

Automotive professionals are increasingly looking for reliable ways to maintain the longevity of electric fleets. The expansion of repair facilities allows dealers and operators to address mechanical issues without the high cost of total battery replacement. By offering services like fleet maintenance, companies can better manage their inventory of electric vehicles. This approach is vital for the long-term sustainability of the electric car market.
